Traveller Stories

What our guests say

Juan Pablo and Julio had travelled widely long before they came to me. They still told me the Arctic route was unlike anything they had done: the aurora igloo, the Hurtigruten crossing, the silence at two in the morning. What they kept returning to was that nothing needed managing along the way. They are already asking me about the next one.

Common Questions

Before You Book

Every Alpina trip includes hand-picked hotel accommodation (typically 5-star), all train journeys between destinations (first class throughout), guided experiences and entrance tickets as described in the itinerary, and my personal curation service, from first enquiry to arrival home.

Flights to the first city and from the last are not included, as most guests combine the trip with existing travel plans.
Most Alpina guests travel from Australia, and every journey is designed with the long haul in mind. I usually suggest arriving a day early to land softly, and I am happy to arrange the extra night. Payment is by card in Swiss francs, my WhatsApp works across every timezone, and each booking carries Swiss Travel Security customer-funds protection, verifiable on the public Swiss register.

After a long flight, there is no better way to arrive than watching the Alps from a reserved first-class seat.
Yes. Every Alpina journey is built around you. Want to add an extra night, swap a hotel, skip a city or start from a different point? Send me a message before booking and I will put together an adjusted quote at no charge.
A CHF 500 deposit secures your dates. The remaining balance is due 60 days before departure. All payments are in CHF by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) via Stripe, fully encrypted and PCI-DSS compliant. No card data is stored by Alpina.
Alpina Travels is a registered Swiss travel business (STAR member 302935, UID CHE-165.649.761) and is a member of the Swiss Travel Security (STS) Garantiefonds, the Swiss financial-protection scheme for licensed travel operators, equivalent to the UK's ATOL or Australia's ATAS. Your payments are protected against operator insolvency under Article 18 of the Swiss Pauschalreisegesetz; your booking confirmation states this STS protection in writing and you receive the STS consumer-information sheet. Card payments are also processed by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1). Comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation and medical costs is strongly recommended in any case.
Yes. Alpina Travels is registered with the Commercial Register of the Canton of Zürich (UID CHE-165.649.761) and is an active member of STAR, the Swiss travel industry's settlement and accreditation service (agency no. 302935). All company details can be verified independently on the Swiss federal registry, Zefix. See the Legal page for the full credentials and verification link.
Cancellations over 91 days before departure: deposit forfeited only. 60–90 days: 50% charge. 30–59 days: 75%. Fewer than 30 days: no refund. If Alpina cancels due to force majeure, you receive a full refund within 14 days. Full details at cancellation policy.
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential and should be purchased at the time of booking, before any reason to cancel could arise. Look for a policy covering trip cancellation and curtailment, medical expenses and emergency evacuation, repatriation, personal liability, and lost or delayed baggage. Pre-existing medical conditions must be declared when buying the policy. Alpina Travels is not an insurer and accepts no liability for inadequate cover.
Always me, directly. No call centres, no intermediaries. The person who designed your trip is the same person who will plan it, personalise it and be reachable throughout your journey. That personal service is the whole point of Alpina.
